The Friends of the Kenai Library are excited to continue to support existing and new programs at the Kenai Community Library, focusing especially on popular programs developed for teens and youth in the area as well as adults and families.
The Friends have dedicated funds to support new programming, including the incredibly popular sewing programs and cooking lessons. Those monies allowed the library to purchase sewing machines and hot plates. It is so rewarding to see mothers and daughters, fathers and daughters and grandparents with their grandchildren making American Girl Doll clothes! Library users of all ages have learned how to make cheese and sourdough starter in the cooking classes. The Friends continue to cover the costs of most of the Summer Reading programs, including two puppet shows and the prizes for the avid young readers.
Friends’ donations have supported the youth book clubs so that each participant can have their own copy of a book for discussion.
The Friends of the Kenai Library partnered with the Alaska State Library and dedicated funding to the Legos project. The Legos Club now has a storage cart and an abundance of Legos to foster creative thinking and stimulating exercises. A self-checkout station in the main room of the Library has been installed so that patrons can quickly check out books. The Friends volunteer and help fund many popular events and programs held at the Library. For more information on programs to enjoy at the Library go to http://www.kenailibrary.org
The Friends will begin their annual membership drive in December 2015. In 2016, we will encourage our Friends to go on-line to sign up for their dividend. There they will see an option to “Pick.Click.Give,” where they can follow the instructions to make a new donation, or an additional gift to Friends of the Kenai Library. www.pick.click.give.org
